The new MLE 5.56×45 70-grain copper Barnes “Triple Shock X” bullet delivers superior penetration, expansion, and near-100% weight retention through FBI test barriers, making it ideal for law enforcement, military, and tactical shooters.
Pooler, GA – September 9, 2025 – Norma Precision Inc. announces the launch of its MLE 5.56×45 TSX ammunition, a precisely engineered round designed for law enforcement, military, and tactical shooters. This cartridge features the renowned 70-grain Barnes TSX projectile—a solid copper bullet recognized for accuracy and reliability. The bullets expand consistently upon impact while retaining nearly all its weight, delivering reliable deep penetration in both soft targets and hard barriers.
During FBI Protocol testing, it delivered excellent penetration, expansion, and weight retention across six barriers. Designed for barrier-blind effectiveness, the new cartridge offers reliable performance.
Table 1: FBI Protocol Barrier Test Results – Norma MLE 5.56×45 TSX
Barrier | Penetration (in) | Expansion (in) | Retained Weight (%) |
Automotive Glass | 15.25 | 0.34 | 78.6 |
Drywall | 17.50 | 0.39 | 97.7 |
Steel | 12.00 | 0.23 | 100.4 |
Bare Gelatin | 19.00 | 0.38 | 99.7 |
Heavy Clothing | 16.75 | 0.39 | 99.8 |
Wood Board | 16.00 | 0.44 | 99.3 |
During testing, the Norma MLE 5.56×45 TSX expanded to 1.5–2 times its original diameter and retained 98–100% of its weight, confirming its barrier-blind performance. Even after passing through glass or steel, the copper projectile stayed intact and penetrated inches of gelatin, meeting FBI depth standards. Through drywall, heavy clothing, and wood, the bullet expanded fully while still reaching inches with almost full weight retention.
Designed for reliability, the Norma MLE 5.56×45 TSX is loaded in Norma brass with standardized primers to ensure consistent ignition, stable velocities, and uniform trajectory. The solid copper design reduces fouling and wear, maintaining accuracy and making upkeep easier in high-volume or extended operations. These features make it a preferred choice for professionals seeking match-grade accuracy.
Tested in a short barrel, the Norma MLE 5.56×45 TSX delivered impressive performance through a 10.5″ carbine; it achieved an average muzzle velocity of 2,793 fps and 1,212 ft-lbs, thus ensuring operators maintain stopping power and terminal effectiveness with compact weapons. The ballistic coefficient (~0.314 G1) and velocity help it retain lethal energy at distance while providing consistent performance.
The new cartridge is now available in 20-round boxes (SKU: 601704041). It is assembled at Norma USA’s factory in Garden City, Georgia. Order online from Norma USA or locate an authorized Norma dealer.
